Crime Victim Compensation
Under the California Victims of Crime (VOC) Program
-
Certain
victims of crime may be eligible to receive payments from
the Restitution Fund for unreimbursed (from any source) losses
directly resulting from a crime. Such crimes include but are
not limited to: rape, child abuse, robbery (not burglary),
domestic violence, assault, or if a family member was a homicide
victim. Money will not remove a victim's pain or bring back
a loved one, but it may help a victim and/or their families
restart their lives.
Losses
that may be covered:
- Medical/dental
- Mental health counseling
- Wage/income
- Financial support
- Job training
- Funeral/burial
Losses NOT covered: (While these losses
are not covered under VOC,
they may be recoverable through court ordered restitution during
the defendant's sentencing or a civil lawsuit).
- Personal property losses, including cash
- Pain and suffering
