on Temporary Restraining Orders
Types of restraining Orders
1. Emergency Protective Orders (EPO) Issued in the field by
law enforcement in cases of immediate danger. Valid for 5 court days or 7 calendar
days, whichever is earlier
2, Domestic Violence Orders (DV-TROs) Issued by a judge in
cases involving physical or sexual abuse or threats of bodily harm.
Granted to
· Spouse
· Former spouse
· Parents of minor children
· Those related by blood marriage or adoption
· Those who have or have had a dating or engagement relationship
· Cohabitants
Procedures needed to obtain a DV-TRO
· Complete a Restraining Order Packet, including
a description of abuse.
· Notify respondent of hearing.
· File papers
· Appear before the judge for a hearing.
· Return in three weeks to obtain a three-year Restraining Order.
