Special Prosecutions Division

The Chief Deputy District Attorney of the Special Prosecutions Division manages over 100 professional staff members and attorneys in nine separate units and manages all aspects of the District Attorney’s annual
$30 million operating budget.

The Special Prosecutions Division includes a staff of 17 prosecutors charged with the responsibility to investigate and prosecute traditional white-collar crimes, including major fraud, workers compensation fraud, and insurance fraud. The chief deputy of the Special Prosecutions Division oversees the investigation and prosecution of criminal and civil cases involving official misconduct, political corruption, and alleged violations of California’s open meeting laws (the Brown Act).

The District Attorney’s Computer Crime Unit, Consumer and Environmental Protection Unit, Asset Forfeiture Unit, Code Enforcement Unit, Fish and Game Unit, Child Abduction Unit, and Welfare Fraud Unit are each managed in the Special Prosecutions Division.

In addition to the foregoing responsibilities, the chief deputy of the Special Prosecutions Division oversees the administration of the support staff, and all information and computer systems in the District Attorney’s Office.
