In 1989, the Ventura County District Attorney's Office became the first office in California to successfully introduce D.N.A. "genetic fingerprinting" evidence in a criminal case.


      BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION       


The Bureau of Investigation provides professional investigative support to the District Attorney's Office. The Bureau provides advanced litigation support and specialized investigation of criminal and civil matters. The Bureau is the primary investigative agency of auto insurance and worker's compensation fraud, welfare fraud, and non-sufficient fund (NSF) check criminal cases in Ventura County. Other responsibilities include tracking criminal intelligence information on organized crime, gang activity, and official misconduct. The Bureau conducts investigations into child abduction, consumer fraud, environmental crimes, police officer involved incidents, computer crimes, identity theft, and complex financial crime investigations. The Bureau has received national recognition for innovative investigation of programs relating to insurance fraud/auto theft crimes, child abduction, and NSF check matters.

District attorney investigators are available to respond to investigative requests and law enforcement emergencies 24 hours a day. Investigators utilize the most technologically-advanced equipment available in completing assignments. All investigators are peace officers who are recruited from law enforcement agencies throughout California. Members of the Bureau of Investigation are recognized throughout California for their expertise in a wide range of investigative functions from homicide investigations to complex white-collar crime activity.
