District Attorney Gregory D. Totten today announced that Judge Edward Brodie sentenced Rudolfo Sandoval (DOB 02/26/1987), a.k.a. "Menace," a Ventura Avenue Gangster, to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Ryan Jason Briner.

Rudolfo Sandoval was convicted on December 17, 2007, of the murder of Ryan Briner. The jury further found true the special circumstance that the murder was an intentional killing by a street gang member; the special allegation that the defendant was a principal in the offense during which a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun was used; and the special circumstance that the crime was committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, and in association with the Ventura Avenue Gangsters street gang.

Ryan Briner was shot and killed the night of May 5, 2004, on Wolverine Street in Ventura . After a comprehensive investigation by the Ventura Police Department, Javier Acevedo and Rudolfo Sandoval were arrested and charged with the murder. The defendants' cases were severed for trial purposes; Rudolfo Sandoval's co-conspirator and co-defendant in the murder, Javier Acevedo, was previously convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on June 26, 2007.
