District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Jason Bucy (DOB 03/12/74), of Thousand Oaks, has been sentenced to serve 365 days in jail after being caught in an Internet sting operated by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. Bucy was convicted of internet child luring, attempted dissemination of matter harmful to a minor, and possession of child pornography. This matter was investigated by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department and the Southern California High Tech Task Force.

In March 2007, Bucy began chatting with an undercover detective in Florida , posing as a 14-year-old girl. The Florida detective referred the matter to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, who took over the role of the 14-year-old girl. During the chats, Bucy sent photographs of his own genitals and photographs of teenagers engaged in sexual conduct. In June 2007, Bucy arranged to meet the "girl" in Los Angeles in order to have sexual relations, but Bucy did not show up at the meeting. When sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant on Bucy's hotel room and car, they found computer storage media containing child pornography and directions to the meeting place.

On January 14, 2008, Judge Bruce Clark placed Bucy on felony probation for three years. Additional conditions of probation include sex offender counseling and mandatory sex offender registration.
